I have had Two Roosters Ice Cream on my list for almost a year now, so I was exceptionally excited when I noticed a location nearby. I’ve loved its branding, story and local appeal. They were started here in central North Carolina, and continue to get their milk and cream from two local creameries.
The shop had many safety measures - including placing your order at the order rather than entering the building - so I felt comfortable placing a quick order. I was immediately impressed by their menu: a creative collection of both regular and rotating flavors. Some of the blends actually felt similar to a Skoop Sisters favorite, Salt & Straw. They have 11 regular flavors, from Coffee Bourbon to Blackberry Hibiscus. I like that they incorporate local flavors as well, like “Sola Cinnamon Donut” which is made by dunking mini doughnuts from the local Sola Coffee and Cafe in a creamy base.
I was overwhelmed with the monthly flavors too! It took me a solid few minutes to decide on my order, with recommendations from the kind staff as well. I landed on Girl Scout Mint (regular flavor) which consisted of crushed Thin Mint cookies amidst a mint base, and Peanut Butter Cookie (monthly flavor, or “guest” as they call it) which was a peanut butter base with pieces of fresh baked vanilla peanut butter cookies. I know...YUM!
Both flavors were bold; the boldness you want and need in ice cream! I loved the combination of thick, creamy base with big cookie chunks. They both tasted perfectly blended and smooth. My only minor complaint was that the ice cream was a bit soft, but the flavor entirely made up for it.
The second I finished my bowl, I wanted to go back for more! I can’t wait to return to try out more of their unique flavors.
